About Martha
Feel Your Best is owned and operated by Martha McCallum, based in the Canadian Rockies of Canmore, Alberta. Martha also owns and operates Martha’s Heli Hikes during the summer months and offers several international hiking adventures to wild places during winter months.
As a teenager, Martha moved west from Montreal to Canmore because she felt most alive when close to nature, and knew she wanted to live and play in the mountains. Everyone has experienced a significant life event when they followed inner wisdom, yet most people can still learn to live more from this place of self each day. Inner wisdom knows what the self needs—for health, happiness and deep fulfillment. Martha facilitates self-explorations with her clients, trusting that the knowledge of what feels best lies within each person.
Martha holds certifications as an ACMG hiking guide, Hakomi mind/body psychotherapist, master herbalist and Hatha yoga teacher, and university degrees in biology and environmental science. In 2000, Martha completed her master herbalist thesis on natural health perspectives on stress, and has focused on stress therapy ever since.
Following herbal training, Martha completed four years of professional training and supervised study of Hakomi, a cutting-edge method of body/mind psychotherapy. Hakomi provides Martha with the tools necessary to work with her clients to help them manage emotional stress, which is often the root of physical symptoms. In addition, Hakomi provides a respectful and compassionate framework of Buddhist principles, through which Martha shapes her work and her daily life.
As a hiking guide, Martha offers mindfulness work in wild mountain settings—a natural combination. Nature ignites a sense of connection and inspiration in most people, and mindfulness is essential to travel skillfully in wild landscapes. Martha is an instructor for Outward Bound Canada on the Mindfulness in the Mountains program, and has instructed on nine veterans hiking/backpacking programs, and two Mount Kilimanjaro annual fundraising expeditions.
